Marathon cannot provide support for the hundreds, if not thousands, of applications and services available to photographers today. If you are experiencing problems with applications or services that are not provided by Marathon Internet Services, we suggest you first do a Web search. Besides contacting the vendor directly, many software providers provide discussion boards or other means of support that you may wish to investigate. If you have tried these options without success, submit a support ticket and we'll see if we can help.

 

Email Policy and Terms of Use

  • A Marathon website hosting account is required.
  • Email hosting is not currently available except when included with one of our website hosting products.
  • It is your responsibility to recognize and notify Marathon if email is failing to reach you.
  • Due to SPAM regulations, you may not setup e-mail accounts provided as part of Marathon Internet Services to automatically forward your mail to an e-mail account held with another ISP. To access your e-mail account from any location, utilize Marathon's free web-based e-mail service. Marathon E-mail Accounts may not be used for sending mass e-mails. If you need to send messages en masse, ask about Marathon's E-Mail Marketing Service.

Supported Email Software
You may use any email software, however, we only provide support for the clients below. For help with other email software, please contact the software vendor. 

Unsupported Email Software and other issues
If you prefer to use an email client other than those listed above, Marathon will provide you with the information necessary to configure the software. However, you will be responsible for the actual configuration. You may need to contact your ISP or a local service technician in the event that issues arise that we are unable to resolve due to:

  • Anti-virus software.
  • Personal firewall software.
  • Web browser related issues.
  • Computer updates and maintenance related issues.
  • Port 25 block and related problems.

Limitations
To improve security and server performance, certain limitations may be placed on email services at Marathon's discretion.

Recipients
You may not send to more than 25 recipients per email message. If you need to send mass email, please see Mass Mailing.

Attachments
Attachments are limited to 5 MB per message.

3rd Party Development Policy

In order to maintain the stability and security of our servers and customer websites, Marathon reserves the right to review and approve third party program code and applications. Marathon Internet Services is not responsible for functionality or maintenance of websites produced by other vendors or suppliers and reserves the right to remove or disable the website if it is determined to be a risk to security or server performance.

Please contact Marathon Internet Services Customer Support at 800-228-0629 should you need to have a database setup.

Marathon provides the following technologies to 3rd party developers:

  • Apache 1.3
  • PHP 5.2 with PEAR
    • Form input must be fully validated, we recommend using PEAR::QuickForm.
    • The PHP mail() function is not available.
    • You are free to use third party mail utilities such as SwiftMailer or PHPMailer.
    • SMTP must be used when sending email via PHP.
  • MySQL 5.x or Postgres 7.x
  • No SSI or Perl

When you are ready to deploy your changes to the production environment, please:

  • Submit the files in archive (zip, tar, ...) form or on CD to your Internet Customer Service representative.
  • Allow 5 to 10 business days for approval of the changes.

Email Forwarding and Third Party Email Addresses

Email forwarding is not supported and is not recommended. The reason we do not support forwarding is because forwarded email messages leave our server and therefore leave our control.

  • Marathon can NOT guarantee successful delivery to an email address that is not on our server.
  • Marathon CAN setup email addresses on your domain and guarantee delivery to that address.
  • If problems arise with delivery of messages from website contact page(s), Marathon cannot help reestablish delivery to an email address not on our server. The most we can do is change the contact page(s) to use an email address that is on our server.

Mass Mailing
Because of concerns over SPAM, security, etc., mass emailing is prohibited except through the Email Marketing service provided by Marathon.
