Manage your images and their quality before posting them for online viewing, within a gallery of your website or even posting them on your blog site.

Please read more about optimizing your images below if you feel your website images are loading slowly after you have changed them out over time.

If you notice your images are now loading slowly after you have replaced them, it probably has to do with the fact that they are not optimized. Here is a quick little guide using the "Save for Web" feature within photoshop. Whenever you are resizing images we highly recommend using this option to help pages load quicker.

  • In Photoshop, at the menu bar, go to File > Save for Web. A dialog window will appear. This dialog lets us optimize image quality / file size ratio visually. It is important to save images at the smallest file size we can, without sacrificing too much of the image quality to minimize the download times of the web page they appear on. This is known as image optimizing.
  • Now let's select an output format. There are 4 options there; the most popular of them are JPEG and GIF formats. GIF format is better for graphics such as text, logos and cartoon type images, while JPEG images (with a .JPG file extension) are best suited for photo quality images. For home page / gallery images, selet JPEG at this time.
  • Estimate the optimized image preview and the target file size value. Adjust file size to image quality ratio by moving the "Quality" slider. We suggest 60-70%. You may reduce the quality more to achieve a smaller file size.
  • Click "OK", select a target folder and file name, and save the image.

NOTE: The settings you choose in "Save for Web" dialog are applied to the Web optimized copy, and not to the source image file.

FTP programs:
There are many FTP programs to choose from when it comes to replacing gallery images within your website or uploading session images for online viewing. We support a few FTP clients that are both Mac and Windows compatible, therefore we have created a few tutorials to assist with the setup and use. You may download the client to appear as a desktop shortcut. We can not support all FTP clients, so you may have to contact that vendor if not found on our support website.

  • CuteFTP - offers a 30-day FREE trial before you buy. They also have several different options and just depends on what features you prefer to have if using other than for Marathon uploading purposes.
  • FileZilla - this is a free ftp client that requires a few settings to adjust when it's first installed.
